Quebec City officer charged in death of cyclist

QUEBEC – A Quebec City police officer has been charged in connection with the death of a cyclist.

Simon Beaulieu allegedly backed into Guy Blouin with his cruiser as he tried to arrest him in September 2014.

He is charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

The death of Blouin, 48, angered residents in the neighbourhood where the incident occurred, prompting vigils and a protest.

Beaulieu is expected to return to court Oct. 16.
