Fishing to be prohibited on portion of Shuswap River near Enderby

ENDERBY – Fishing is being banned on a portion of the Shuswap River to protect spawning salmon.

From June 15 to Nov. 15, 2016, fishing will not be allowed from 50 metres upstream and 50 metres downstream of Trinity Bridge in Ashton Creek, near Enderby.

The provincial government announced the closure today, June 13, and says the action is intended to protect migrating chinook salmon.

“The closure will prevent people from fishing off the bridge, which was disrupting the ongoing salmon spawn,” states a release.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada has closed the same section for chinook angling.
