iN VIDEO: Kamloops hit-and-run caught on camera, RCMP seek witnesses

CONTENT ADVISORY

Police may have identified the driver, but investigators are looking for more witnesses after a man was hit by a pickup truck in downtown Kamloops.

The collision was caught on surveillance cameras in the area. A man walking across Lansdowne Street tried and failed to dodge the oncoming pickup.

Ray Dhaliwal, owner of Brown’s Locksmith, said employees were shocked to see what happened when police came asking for video footage the next morning.

In the video, the man is seen crossing Lansdowne Street at 3 Avenue. An approaching truck is heard speeding up before it comes into frame as the man tries moving out of the way. Unable to dodge it, he’s run over by the truck.

“At that instant, you don’t know what to do when you see a bloody truck coming at you,” Dhaliwal said.

The pickup’s brake lights appear to turn on before it then drives off.

Though not in the video he posted to social media, Dhaliwal said another person came into the frame a minute later. Another person then drove by without stopping before first responders arrived on the scene a few minutes later.

Dhaliwal doesn’t believe the collision was intentional.

According to RCMP, the victim was taken to hospital.

Police did not identify him or didn’t say how badly he was hurt.

“We believe we have identified the driver… Our investigators will continue their work to determine the exact cause of this incident,” RCMP media liaison officer Cpl. Brett Urano said in a media release.

RCMP did not say whether or not the hit-and-run was intentional.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
