Kamloops police use spike belt to stop stolen pickup hauling tractor

KAMLOOPS – RCMP have a suspect in custody after a chase with a stolen pickup truck hauling a farm tractor on a flat deck trailer early this morning in Kamloops.

Police say the driver of the pickup wouldn’t stop for police at about 1:51 a.m., June18, on Hillside Drive.

While trying to get away, the suspect ran over a spike belt police had deployed blowing out the pickup’s tires, according to a RCMP media release.

The suspect drove into the downtown corner on the vehicle’s rims before stopping on the sidewalk next to the Sandman Signature Hotel in the 200-block of Lorne Street, where he was arrested.

The pickup, flat deck trailer and farm tractor had been stolen from a business in the 1200-block of McGill Road, police say.

A man is in custody for a court appearance on several charges.
