Cadet camp instructor faces sex assault charges, cadets not involved

OTTAWA – The Canadian Forces have charged a civilian instructor at a cadet camp over an alleged failure to disclose his HIV-positive status prior to having a sexual relationship with a member of the military.

The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service says the charges do not involve cadets.

Julian Morello, 20, an instructor at Blackdown Cadet Training Centre at Canadian Forces Base Borden, is charged with four counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The charges relate to incidents over the last three months.

After his arrest on Monday, the Burlington, Ont., resident was remanded into custody in Barrie, Ont., with a bail hearing set for Thursday.

Military authorities say they believe he may have had other sexual partners and are asking anyone who has concerns or information to come forward.
