Body of Lake Country canoeist recovered in Okanagan Lake

LAKE COUNTRY – The body of a woman whose canoe overturned in Okanagan Centre Sunday night has been recovered.

B.C. Coroners Service told Global Okanagan that divers found the body of the 57-year-old Lake Country woman on the bottom of the lake just 35 metres from where she was last seen. She and a middle-aged man were in a canoe near the 9300-block of Okanagan Centre Road West around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26. The canoe overturned and both went into the water. 

A witness told RCMP they saw only the man surface. Neither were wearing life jackets.

The search began Sunday night but called off when it became too dark to search. An RCMP dive team arrived the next day and were on site until around 1:30 p.m. A media release from RCMP does not say what time the body was found.

The name of the woman and cause of death has not been released.
