iN TRAFFIC: Roads are slippery today throughout the Thompson-Okanagan

DriveBC cautions drivers on most mountain passes to watch for slippery sections with snow starting to fall in many areas this morning, Jan. 9.

On the Coquihalla Highway, watch for slippery sections from 6 km south of the Great Bear Snowshed through to 29 km South of Merritt.

B.C.’s Travellers Forecast predicts 2-4 cm of snow starting this morning with snow levels near valley bottoms through the entire length of the Coquihalla Highway.

On the Merritt to Kamloops section, watch for slippery roads form Exit 315: Helmer Road to West Kamloops.

On the Okanagan Connector there is compact snow from West Kelowna to the Pennask Summit then slippery sections through to Merritt. Two to 4 cm of snow are expected this morning.

On Highway 1 there is black Ice from 15 kms east of Chase to 8 km west of Sicamous. There are also slippery sections for about 6 km east of Kamloops to about 20 km east of Sicamous.

From the Perry River Bridge, 25 km east of Sicamous, to Revelstoke there is limited visibility due to fog. Snow is expected to end this morning through the Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass then start again tonight.

On Highway 3 from Hope to Princeton, 2 cm of snow is expected beginning this morning. There are slippery sections from 32 km west of Princeton to Hedley with compact snow.

Watch for pooling water on Highway 97 from 3 km south of Osoyoos to 5 km north of Okanagan Falls. Then there is compact snow from Okanagan Falls to Penticton slippery sections through to Summerland. That turns to compact snow through to the Bennett Bridge at Kelowna.

There are slippery sections from 13 km south of Coldstream to 17 km north of Vernon on Highway 97 then through to Monte Creek.

There are slippery sections from Enderby through to Sicamous on Highway 97A.

Environment Canada forecasts periods of snow mixed with rain starting early this afternoon in Kamloops with a high of 3 Celsius.

Vernon and Kelowna can expect a high of 1 C with snow beginning early this afternoon.

Penticton should get up to 3 C with periods of rain beginning this morning.

Sun Peaks has 5 cm of new snow on alpine base of 137 cm. It’s -6 C.

Silver Star Mountain Resort is -4 C, also with 9 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours and an alpine base of 156 cm.

Big White Ski Resort had 8 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours, is -4 C and has an alpine base of 147 cm.

Apex Mountain Resort only had 5 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours but has an alpine base of 167 cm and is -6 C.
