Cirque Du Soleil’s one-of-a-kind ‘Corteo’ coming to Okanagan

Some of the world’s most famous acrobats will be performing in Penticton.

Cirque Du Soleil has announced that its Corteo show will be coming to the South Okanagan Events Centre in the new year, according to a media release issued today, May 29.

Corteo is a joyous procession that means cortege in Italian, a festive parade imagined by a clown.

“Combining acrobatic feats, comedy and acting, the show plunges spectators into a theatrical world of fun and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth,” the release says.

It’s a one-of-a-kind production that’s directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca. Since its Montreal debut in 2005, the show has been watched by over 10 million people in 20 different countries.

“In a carnival atmosphere, the clown pictures his own funeral taking place, watched over by quietly caring angels," read the release.

"Juxtaposing the large with the small, the ridiculous with the tragic, and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection, the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness, to illustrate the share of humanity within each of us.”

The run of eight shows shows will be happening between Jan. 4 and Jan. 7, 2024.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2023, through ValleyFirstTix.com or at the SOEC box office in Penticton.
