BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – Slovakia’s ruling coalition has amended law governing the country’s railways to prevent members of a far right party patrolling trains.
The neo-Nazi opposition People’s Party – Our Slovakia launched the patrols in April in a reaction to a robbery that party leader Marian Kotleba blamed on a member of the Roma minority.
But the Justice Ministry said that from January only police or those approved by railways operators will be allowed to maintain law and order on trains.
Earlier, the party had vowed to expand its patrols to more parts of Slovakia.
Kotleba is an admirer of Slovakia’s World War II Nazi puppet state, considers NATO a criminal organization, and repeatedly criticizes the European Union, the Roma minority and migrants.
