Fed says Yellen checks out OK after suffering from dehydration during speech

WASHINGTON – Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen “felt dehydrated at the end of a long speech under bright lights” Thursday in Massachusetts and was seen by medical personnel as a precaution, the Fed said in a statement.

The Fed said Yellen “felt fine afterward and has continued with her schedule Thursday evening.”

Yellen, 69, was delivering a 23-page speech on inflation at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Toward the end of the speech, she paused twice for a period of several seconds, staring down at her text.

She then resumed speaking and concluded the speech with the audience applauding.

Yellen received a plaque from officials who then helped her off the stage. The Fed said that “as a precaution, she was seen by (emergency) staff on-site.”
