Quebec reverses policy and makes flu vaccine free for all residents

MONTREAL – Quebec is making the flu vaccine free for all residents this year.

The shots had only been free for certain high-risk groups and for health-care workers.

Health officials said today the government reversed position because of the high levels of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus, and novel coronavirus circulating in the province.

The Health Department says the flu vaccine will be available for free to anyone who wants it starting today.

The department says it is encouraging certain groups to get vaccinated against the flu as soon as possible, including people over 60, those with chronic illnesses and certain pregnant women, as well as those who live with high-risk individuals.

Families with children under six months and health-care workers are also encouraged to get the vaccine.
