Incident on Apex mountain results in helicopter evacuation of 15-year-old girl

OKANAGAN – Yesterday, July 23, a severely injured 15-year-old girl was rescued from the Apex mountain area by helicopter.

The Penticton girl was outside of cell phone range, riding with a group of ATV riders when she sustained the injury. One member of the group rode back to cell phone range, called 911 and helped the first responders by directing them to the injured girl.

Penticton Search and Rescue manager Richard Terry received the call at 4:46 p.m. and mobilized PENSAR’s Air Evacuation Team and ground support.

Along with the PENSAR crew, an air ambulance was sent to the site, because of the seriousness of the reported injury, Randy Brown, PENSAR public information officer said in a release.

Once she was evacuated from the Apex mountain area, the girl was flown to Kelowna General Hospital by the EHS Air Ambulance Critical Care Team.

The July 23 release did not contain further details on her condition.
