RCMP come to the aid of dehydrated hiker in Kelowna park

KELOWNA – A sick and dehydrated hiker was helped out of Okanagan Mountain Park by police over the weekend.

The Calgary man was hiking with a companion when he became ill and dehydrated overnight, Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says in a media release.

Because the man was physically unable to hike out of the park, an RCMP boat was deployed to pick him up around 1 p.m. Sunday, July 24.

“The RCMP boat, which was on the waters of Okanagan Lake at that time, located both hikers south of Rattlesnake Island,” O’Donaghey says.

The men had hiked about 15 km into the park, and stopped near Commando Bay on Okanagan Lake.

They were transported across the lake to Emergency Health Services, which were waiting at Antlers Beach in Peachland. The sick Calgary man was treated and released at the scene by paramedics, O’Donaghey says.
