Kamloops musicians to put on Tragically Hip cover show to support cancer charities

KAMLOOPS – For all the Tragically Hip fans in Kamloops who are missing out on their final tour across Canada, there is a back up plan.

Local musicians are practicing their Gord Downie impressions and Blow on High Dough guitar solos for a benefit concert on Sept. 22. All proceeds will go towards the Kamloops Cancer Clinic and Downie’s preferred charity the Sunnybrook Foundation.

The show is being put on by Arron Butowkski and Kara-Sheen Inferno. Butowski says in a Facebook post that difficulty getting tickets for the Tragically Hip concerts inspired the show.

“If I can’t see The Hip, my second favourite thing to do is to play The Hip’s music,” he says in the post. “Every band has a Hip song in their back pocket so I thought why not get the amazing talent in this city together and have our own concert.”

That way the money is diverted from scalpers to charities, he writes.

The show will feature at least eight local bands or solo artists and a Tragically Hip cover band, the Hip Replacements.

It's scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Blue Grotto. Tickets are $35 and available now.
