Sunshine Cabaret, car shows and family day activities highlight long weekend activities

PENTICTON – It promises to be a great weekend for family entertainment with a number of free activities taking place in the South Okanagan this long weekend.

The Sunshine Cabaret summer concert series returns to Gyro Park Friday, July 29 with musical group Jack & Jill, followed on Saturday evening by Brent Tyler. Free entertainment gets underway at 7 p.m. food vendors will be on site.

The Rotary Wheels Car Show takes place Saturday, July 30 in Rotary Park, beginning at 7 a.m. The all day event features a diverse range of vehicles from early 20th century to modern vehicles. There will be live entertainment, a beverage garden and food and car merchandise vendors.

Kars Under the K in Keremeos happens on Sunday, July 31 at Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free to view hundreds of old, custom and classic cars in a fun family setting. The day begins with a pancake breakfast in the park, with free swimming in the Keremeos pool, in Memorial Park. A vendors alley and an antique tractor and small engines display are also a part of the event, which is a fund raiser for Keremeos Legion and Elks.

BC Family Day Party in the Park is an all day affair in Gyro Park, Monday, August 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free family entertainment with a petting zoo, bouncy castles, kids arts and crafts and on stage entertainment, including special guests the Trollsons at noon.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
