RCMP Targetted Enforcement Team recovers shotgun, stolen property in Penticton

PENTICTON – Penticton RCMP’s Targetted Enforcement Team have successfully removed an unlicensed shotgun from the street and recovered a stolen bicycle.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested during a traffic stop on July 22 and officers executing a search warrant later that day at a Calgary Avenue residence found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.

The woman was later released without charges but the man was held for court, charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to order and careless storage of a firearm. He makes a court appearance tomorrow, Aug. 3.

Members of the Targetted Enforcement Team also observed two men on bicycles, known to police, on July 27, one of whom was wanted on outstanding warrants.

The man attempted to flee police but crashed his bike during the getaway. He was arrested on outstanding warrants and possession of stolen property for the bike he was riding on.

Police also found drugs in his backpack, resulting in more charges.

The bike was traced back to Silver Star Resort near Vernon where it was reported stolen from a storage locker on July 8.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
