Driving while suspended results in fine and further suspension for Penticton man

PENTICTON – A Penticton man is learning the hard way not to drive when suspended.

Justin Curtis Mann, 28, appeared before Judge Gale Sinclair yesterday, Aug. 8, and pleaded guilty to two counts of driving while his license was suspended.

Mann was in the driveway of a Summerland residence, in the process of driving to the store on Mar. 8 , 2016, when police attended the address, court heard.

Police did a check on the vehicle’s plates and realized Mann was under an indefinite driving suspension and charged him when he returned to the residence.

In a second incident on May 16, 2016, Mann was driving in Kelowna when police put his vehicle under surveillance, stopping him in a roadside check. He originally gave the police false identification but then provided his real name.

Crown Prosecutor Karla Dodds asked the judge for a $500 fine for the first offence and a $750 fine for the second, along with a further one year suspension of Mann’s driving license, calling his driving record, “not the best, or the worst record.”

Judge Sinclair fined Mann $500 for the first offence and $700 for the second, along with one year’s probation. He has one year to pay the fine.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
