It was the longest and most expensive election campaign in modern Canadian history, but it’s finally over.After all the rallies, speeches, photo ops and unrelenting campaign ads it’s now up to Canadians to decide their political fate.The epic battle was fought over gut-level values as much as election policy platforms. And based on the very heavy voter turnout at advance polls, Election Canada officials are expecting a massive turnout at the polls today.

DEFENCE TO OPEN ITS CASE AT THE GUY TURCOTTE MURDER TRIAL

The defence will begin outlining its case today in the first-degree murder trial of Guy Turcotte, the Quebecer charged in the stabbing deaths of his two children. Turcotte pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder but has admitted to causing the 2009 deaths of the children. The Crown wrapped up its case Friday after calling more than two dozen witnesses.

A study has found that the cost to Quebec taxpayers for a single baby born to a woman aged 40 and older ranges from almost $45,000 to more than $100,000 under the province’s publicly funded IVF program. The researchers behind the study suggest it represents a cautionary tale for other jurisdictions considering whether to fund similar programs.
