EDMONTON – Mazden Leslie knocked in the game-winning goal 9:08 into the third period as the Vancouver Giants edged the Edmonton Oil Kings 2-1 on Thursday.
Vojtech Port opened the scoring to put Edmonton (1-10-1) up 1-0 just 2:32 into the first period. Colton Langkow answered on the power play for Vancouver (4-5-1-2) with 2:31 remaining in the frame.
After a scoreless second, Leslie broke the tie with a power-play goal and the Giants held on for the victory.
Brett Mirwald had 31 saves for Vancouver. Meanwhile, Alex Worthington saved 37-of-39 shots he faced in a losing effort.
