TORONTO – A short-form documentary helmed by Toronto-based filmmaker Ann Shin is in the running for Oscar consideration.
“My Enemy, My Brother,” about two former soldiers who fought on opposite sides during the Iran-Iraq war, is one of 10 finalists being considered for a documentary short subject nomination. Five films will be nominated.
The Fathom Film Group production was featured by the New York Times and was adapted into a web feature.
A crowdfunding campaign launched earlier this year raised nearly US$30,000 to help turn the project into a feature-length documentary.
The doc tells the stories of Zahed Haftlang and Najah Aboud who by chance crossed paths in Vancouver two decades after being at war.
