Landslide kills at least 4 in mountainside village in Nepal

KATHMANDU, Nepal – A landslide swept into a mountain village in western Nepal, killing at least four people and leaving three missing, a government official said Friday.

The landslide damaged at least 20 houses in Katwada village Thursday night and rescuers were searching for three missing under the debris, government administrator Pradip Shrestha said.

He said rescuers from a nearby army camp reached the village soon after the landslide occurred.

Landslides are common during the rainy season in Nepal, which is mostly covered by mountainous terrain.
