B.C. man found guilty of manslaughter after setting fire that killed woman

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Family and friends of a woman who died in a house fire burst into tears today as a jury in Kamloops, B.C., found a man guilty of setting the blaze.

David Gordon has been convicted of manslaughter and two counts of causing damage by fire or explosion in the April 25, 2013, fire that claimed the life of Cheryl William.

Earl William says he’s been crying in court while listening to details of how his sister died.

William was a visitor at the house where Gordon had an argument with his girlfriend and set a box of clothes on fire.

Another tenant tried to get William out as the flames spread but couldn’t wake her up.

The Crown is seeking to have Gordon declared a dangerous offender, which could see him get an indefinite sentence. (CHNL)
