Vernon woman dies in family fight; suspect arrested

A 75-year-old Vernon died during a fight with her family at a home in the city Friday afternoon.

After getting numerous calls from the public about a fight that was escalating at the home in the 2300 block of 34 Street in the neighbourhood just east of Vernon Jubilee Hospital, RCMP said officers arrived to find the body of the woman on the unit’s patio.

“Responding officers arrested a suspect on scene,” Vernon RCMP media relations officer Cpl. Tania Finn said in a media release.

“The suspect was released from police custody pending a future court date and is bound by several conditions.”

RCMP said the woman’s death was an isolated incident and there’s no known risk to the public.
