LOS ANGELES – Actress Cicely Tyson, composer Lalo Schifrin and publicist Martin Levy will be getting honorary Oscar statuettes this fall at the film academy’s Governors Awards, while Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will receive the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the honorees Wednesday after a Tuesday night vote by the 54-member Board of Governors.
Schifrin, a six-time nominee, composed original scores for 100 films including “Cool Hand Luke” and “Dirty Harry.” Tyson was a best actress Oscar nominee for 1972’s “Sounder.”
Levy will be the first publicist to receive an honorary Oscar. A frequent partner to Steven Spielberg, he has worked on campaigns for “Schindler’s List” and “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial.”
The 10th annual Governors Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Nov. 18.
