Charges dropped against Kelowna woman arrested for stabbing sleeping husband

KELOWNA – A Joe Rich woman who police say stabbed her sleeping husband in April will not be prosecuted because of a psychiatric disorder.

Christine Eve Haynes, 58, was arrested for aggravated assault April 18 at a home on Highway 33. Police at the time said she stabbed her 70-year-old husband “multiple times” seriously injuring him.

Her charge was later changed to attempted murder but after reading a psychiatric report a Kelowna judge declared her not criminally responsible due to a mental disorder.

She will be treated at a psychiatric institution until deemed fit for release, Global Okanagan reports.
