World class downhill mountain bike trails coming to Big White

KELOWNA – Construction has started on a massive new series of downhill mountain bike trails at Big White.

The trails will be accessed by lift and will include 1,200 kilometres of beginner, intermediate, expert and pro trails.

“The resort’s goal is to create a unique riding destination in the Okanagan that speaks to the soul of mountain biking, with trails and services that are built, staffed, and provided by riders for other riders,” the resort posted to their website this week.

“The authentic, grassroots biking experience will fulfill the goals of enduro, downhill, freeride and youth mountain bikers.”

Big White president Peter Plimmer says he has been downhill mountain biking for years.

“I have to say this project is as much a personal lifestyle decision as it is a business decision,” he says. “We want to have an awesome place to ride close to home and I believe the personal meaning of this project to our family will differentiate us from other lift-served riding destinations.”

Landscape artists Brent Harley and Associates designed the master plan with business planning and construction by Alpine Bike Parks. The trails are expected to be open in 2017.

“Big White Resort has some exciting collaborations and projects in the works with trendsetting riders, builders and bike industry companies,” Plimmer says. “We look forward to sharing our story with you as we undertake and continue this exciting and creative process.”
