NHL labour talks expected to resume Thursday after late night of negotiations
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Talks between the NHL and NHL Players’ Association did not begin as scheduled on Thursday morning.
The NHLPA said it was updating players on negotiations and no firm time had been set for talks to resume.
When negotiations ended around 1 a.m. Thursday, commissioner Gary Bettman said U.S. federal mediator Scot Beckenbaugh requested the parties return to the league office at 10 a.m.
The push is on to reach an agreement to save a shortened season.
Despite a gap that remains in talks, the NHL Players’ Association decided to let a self-imposed deadline to file a “disclaimer of interest” pass on Wednesday night.
The sides have moved closer to one another while trading proposals in recent days, but some key issues remain.
They have been unable to agree on who will bear the liability on pension funds and where the salary cap should be set at for the 2013-14 season.
