Okanagan Indian Band explores solar power

VERNON – The Okanagan Indian Band may soon be going green with solar energy.

The band is set to receive $18,000 through the B.C. First Nations Clean Energy Business Fund, according to a B.C. Government media release.

The money will pay for a feasibility and business-case study on the possibility of a solar rooftop system for the community's energy demands.

Hedgehog Technologies of Vancouver has been hired to develop the plan in consultation with the Okanagan Indian Band. They will conduct an energy audit and a cost-benefit analysis.

"This is an excellent opportunity for the Okanagan Indian Band as we explore clean solar power and the many potential benefits it can provide to our community. A thorough energy plan ensures we will take the right steps to maximize energy efficiency and also create the best economic opportunities for band members going forward," Okanagan Indian Band Chief Byron Louis says in the release.
