Canada Council for the Arts creates fund to give refugees free access to events

MONTREAL – The Canada Council for the Arts is creating a fund to help newly arrived Syrian refugees attend cultural events for free.

The $200,000 fund will support arts organizations that wish to provide free access to their performances, exhibitions or arts events for refugees.

Funding for the two-year initiative comes from the national arts funding agency and from Sun Life Financial.

The program will begin in April 2016.
