Fatal crash on Coquihalla near Merritt

MERRITT – A rollover on the Coquihalla Highway Sunday night left the passenger dead and the driver with minor injuries.

The single vehicle crash, about 15 kilometres north of Merritt, happened around 7 p.m. and closed the highway for several hours.

The driver of southbound Mazda 3 left the road, skidded and rolled several times before landing in the ditch, according to Global Okanagan.

A 27-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, was killed.

The 30-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators say speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash.

RCMP aren’t releasing the woman’s name or hometown at the request of her family.
