Teen in court on murder charge after death of infant in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – Several relatives of a dead infant cried in a Saskatoon courtroom as a 16-year-old girl appeared briefly on a charge of second-degree murder.

Police have said the teen was not related to the baby boy.

One man in court said he invited the accused into his home.

The teen is also charged with breaching two court orders to keep the peace and abstain from alcohol and drugs.

Officers found the injured child on Sunday morning at a home in the College Park neighbourhood.

The baby died in hospital.

The death marks Saskatoon’s ninth homicide of the year.
