Puerto Rico beauty queen debuts crutches after fainting backstage at Miss America

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – A Puerto Rican beauty queen vying for the title of Miss America has modeled not only a bathing suit but a pair of crutches during a portion of the contest.

The Miss Puerto Rico organization said Friday that Kiaraliz Medina twisted her ankle and later fainted backstage during the competition’s question-and-answer segment because of the pain. Medina later introduced herself to the audience by saying, “I’m here to make the crutches look good.”

The Miss America winner will be announced Saturday during the competition’s final round. The event is being held in Las Vegas.
