MELBOURNE, Australia – Canada’s Milos Raonic moved into the fourth round of the Australian Open for the second time in his career beating German Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-6(4), 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday.

The 13th seed from Thornhill, Ont. struggled in an opening set lasting 50 minutes against an opponent ranked 19th as they played for the first time. But Raonic quickly got a grip on the match and rolled on to victory.

Raonic dismissed Kohlschreiber in one hour, 52 minutes with 23 aces. He fired 44 winners and had 38 unforced errors.

Raonic has entered the second week of a major for the third time after making it to the final 16 at the US Open four months ago and also getting that far in Melbourne in 2011.

Meanwhile, doubles veteran Daniel Nestor, of Toronto, reached the third round with new partner Mahesh Bhupathi as the fifth seeds set up a meeting with Italians Simone Boelli and Fabio Fognini.

Nestor’s team beat Romanian Victor Hanescu and Martin Klizak of Slovakia 6-1, 7-6(8).

The victory took just under 90 minutes, as Nestor and Bhupathi served up five aces and broke serve twice.
