Hungary’s Timea Babos beats Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard at Shenzhen Open

SHENZHEN, China – Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Hungary’s Timea Babos in quarter-final play at the Shenzhen Open on Thursday.

Bouchard, the No. 6 seed from Westmount, Que., is trying to regain her form after an off-year that saw her plummet more than 40 positions in the world rankings to her current No. 49.

The 70th-ranked Babos will play Alison Riske in the semifinals after the American beat Annett Kontaveit of Estonia 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Agnieszka Radwanska also advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Wang Qiang of China. The top-seeded Pole, who saved two break points in the second set, will next face Anna-Lena Friedsam of Germany.

Friedsam beat Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
