Seahawks’ win over Vikings is the most-watched early Sunday NFL wild-card game on record

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Seahawks’ comeback win over the Vikings is the most-watched early Sunday NFL wild-card game on record.

NBC said Monday that Seattle’s 10-9 victory in frigid conditions averaged 35.3 million viewers, up 25 per cent from the 28.3 million for last year’s Bengals-Colts matchup in the same slot.

Records go back to 1988.

In the late Sunday game, the Packers’ 35-18 win over the Redskins averaged 38.8 million viewers on Fox for the biggest audience in television since the Super Bowl. That’s down 8 per cent from the 42.3 million for last year’s Detroit-Dallas matchup, which drew the third-highest viewership in NFL wild-card history.

The four games last weekend averaged 32.5 million viewers, up 9 per cent from the 29.9 million last season.
