Toronto bakery gave 500 Powerball tickets to customers in promotion; plans repeat

TORONTO – A Toronto bakery is giving locals a chance to win the U.S. Powerball lottery that’s offering its largest jackpot ever — $1.5 billion.

World Class Bakers said they are giving away 500 tickets for the Wednesday night draw and apparently all tickets had been claimed by mid-afternoon on Tuesday.

Customers who made a purchase of at least $20 were given a ticket on their way out of the store.

The manager, Suzanne King, said the promotion was so successful that she was planning to drive to Buffalo, N.Y., on Tuesday night to buy more tickets.

The Multi-State Lottery Association, which runs the game, says the odds of having the winning Powerball ticket are one in 292.2 million.
