Safety improvements coming to West Kelowna’s Highway 97 and Boucherie Road

WEST KELOWNA – The provincial government is going ahead with construction on Highway 97 at Boucherie Road.

According to a release from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, a new intersection and two major safety improvements are scheduled for the busy West Kelowna highway.

"Public engagement is an important part of our project planning and we thank everyone who provided input," Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone says in the release. "The public feedback expressed strong support for the ministry's conceptual layout to improve safety and traffic flow at the Boucherie Road intersection and our next step will be to initiate preliminary design at that location."

The first improvement is the installation of six kilometres of lighting on Highway 97 from William R. Bennett Bridge to Ross Road.

The second is the addition of approximately four kilometres of median barrier on Highway 97 from Daimler Drive to Gossett Road.

Close to 400 people attended two public engagement open houses last spring and provided input on this issue. Now, a report on Boucherie Road is available online.

The summary shows engagement results, open house attendance, number of feedback forms submitted and conceptual layouts for the proposed changes.
