Vernon receives seventh award for financial planning

Mayor Mund presented Kevin Bertles, Director of Financial Services, and members of his team with the Canadian Award for Financial Planning on behalf of the Government Finance Officers Association. This is the seventh year in a row that the City has received this honour.

"We on Council are proud of Mr. Bertles’s team for this accomplishment," said Mayor Mund. "The Canadian Award for Financial Reporting recognizes excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant accomplishment by a municipal government and its management. Furthermore, this demonstrates to our citizens the rigour, accountability and transparency with which this organization undertakes its financial planning and reporting processes. We appreciate the hard work of Mr. Bertles and his team and their commitment to the taxpayers of Vernon."

Bertles also received the Financial Reporting Achievement Certificate for his role as the individual designated by the City as being primarily responsible for the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting.

"It remains our goal to consistently deliver fiscally transparent documents and convey financial information that supports the solid framework upon which our budget is based,” said Bertles. “We use the feedback from the review program and other professional sources and Council to prepare the next annual report, and we strive every year to improve upon our reports and our practices. We are extremely pleased with the collaborative effort that our team has put into the continual development of our annual report since we have been a participant in this program and since our first award seven years ago.”
