Canada’s Lemieux to face de la Rosa in first bout since losing middleweight title

MONTREAL – David Lemieux of Montreal will face American James de la Rosa on March 12 in his first bout since losing his International Boxing Federation middleweight title, promoter Camille Estaphan announced Monday.

Lemieux (34-3) took the vacant IBF title in June with a win by decision over Hassan N’Dam in Montreal, but lost it in his next fight on Oct. 17 to perhaps the world’s best middleweight, Gennady Golovkin, in New York.

De la Rosa (23-3-0) has not fought since he was knocked out in the fifth round by Hugo Centeno Jr. in December, 2014.

The Lemieux-de la Rosa bout will be staged at the Olympia Theatre in Montreal, which holds 1,500.
