Woman ticketed for driving snow-covered car in south end Halifax

HALIFAX – A 37-year-old woman has been ticketed after driving what police have described as a “moving snowbank.”

Halifax police Const. Diane Woodworth says the woman was stopped on Barrington Street on Wednesday because her car was not properly cleared of snow.

A photo of the four-door black sedan shows only a small section of the windshield cleared of snow on the driver’s side, and several inches of snow on its roof.

Woodworth says the woman told officers that she was on her way to a car wash to melt the snow.

She was issued a $180 ticket for driving a motor vehicle with an obstruction on its windshield.

Woodworth says police posted a photo of the snow-covered car on its Facebook page as a deterrent and it’s been shared more than 500 times.

The driver isn’t the only one paying a price for cutting corners with snow clearing.

Ontario Provincial Police say a man received a $110 ticket after an officer spotted a car largely covered in snow on the road in Brussels, Ont., about 100 kilometres northwest of Guelph, on Tuesday afternoon.

A photograph of the car tweeted by police shows only a small portion of the driver’s side windshield was cleared.

Sgt. Dave Rektor says the officer knew the man, gave him a ticket and a warning to clear the snow from his car before he goes for his next drive.

Then the officer cleared rest of the snow from the man’s car and let him get on his way.
