SAINT-SEVERIN, Que. – A nine-year-old boy is dead after an apparent accident at an outdoor rink northeast of Montreal.

Quebec provincial police say it appears the boy was playing hockey alone at around 9 a.m. Saturday morning when one of the nets fell on top of him.

Two municipal workers in Saint-Severin, Que. found the boy on the ice.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where his death was confirmed.

Saint-Severin is about 200 kilometres from Montreal.
