HALIFAX – Francesco Iasenza put away the winner with less than two minutes to play as the Moncton Wildcats edged the Halifax Mooseheads 3-2 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.
Maxim Barbashev and Brooklyn Kalmikov scored in the first and second periods respectively for Moncton (19-14-6).
Jonathan Lemieux made 31 saves for the win in net.
James Swan scored and also assisted on Robert Orr’s goal for Halifax (24-17-2). Mathis Rousseau stopped 24 shots in net for the Mooseheads.
Both teams were 0 for 5 on the power play.
Elsewhere in the QMJHL, the Charlottetown Islanders blanked the Shawinigan Cataractes 1-0, the Sherbrooke Phoenix routed the Drummondville Voltigeurs 7-2, the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada snuffed out the Gatineau Olympiques 5-2, and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar sailed past the Rimouski Oceanic.
