Man found dead in Vancouver apartment first murder of 2016: police
VANCOUVER – A 40-year-old man is Vancouver’s first homicide victim of 2016.
Police were called to an apartment building at about 11 p.m. Saturday after someone checking on one of the units found a body inside.
The man has been identified as Christopher Kwik of Vancouver, who did not live in the building. Police say Kwik suffered a gunshot wound, but they didn’t confirm how he died.
The attack appears to have been targeted, said Const. Brian Montague.
At least one resident of the building heard something happening earlier Saturday night, but didn’t call police, and when officers arrived, the man had been dead “for some time,” Montague said. He added that is not yet clear when Kwik was shot or died.
Kwik was expected to appear in court Tuesday on three charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking, but Montague said he was not on police radar for drug or gang activity.
“It’s way too early to determine motive, whether drug activity was behind this attack or whether it’s something entirely different,” he said.
The death is Vancouver’s first homicide of the year, and police continue to investigate.
Vancouver had 15 murders in 2015, including two gunfire deaths.
