Animated ‘Snowtime!’ was biggest Canadian film draw for 2015

The animated film “Snowtime!” was the top Canadian box office performer in 2015.

The 3D feature earned $3,359,425 last year, and is the latest recipient of the Cineplex Golden Screen Award for Feature Film as the year’s biggest homegrown ticket draw.

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television will recognize the film at the Canadian Screen Awards on March 13.

“Snowtime!” centres on the kids of a small village who decide to have a massive snowball fight.

It hit Quebec theatres in November and is set to expand across Canada on Feb. 12.

The academy will also present Golden Screen Awards to the most-watched TV program and most-watched reality show.

The finalists in the category for top series, limited series or TV movie are: CBC’s “The Book of Negroes,” CTV’s “Corner Gas: The Movie,” CBC’s “Murdoch Mysteries,” Global’s “Rookie Blue,” and CTV’s “Saving Hope.”

The reality show finalists are: CTV’s “The Amazing Race Canada,” Global’s ” Big Brother Canada,” CBC’s “Canada’s Smartest Person,” CBC’s “Dragons’ Den,” and CTV’s “MasterChef Canada.”

The finalists are the five top-rated programs in each genre for the 2014-2015 broadcast year, based on data from Numeris.
