Seven isolated after suspicious package delivered to Public Safety building

OTTAWA – Seven people are being kept isolated in a downtown Ottawa office tower after a suspicious package was delivered to the building that houses Public Safety Canada.

Police say one officer, three firefighters and three civilians are currently being held in isolation, although they show no symptoms of ill health.

Another 40 to 50 people on the 15th floor of the building have been asked to stay where they are while the matter is investigated.

The rest of the office building is unaffected.

A fire department hazardous materials team has secured the package and is trying to identify its contents.

Police say they were called to the scene at 9:50 a.m.
