B.C. man in arranged marriage charged with murdering his wife in 2006

VANCOUVER – Vancouver police say a 40-year-old man has been charged with murdering his wife in a case that goes back seven years.

Jaswant Singh Gill is accused of second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Gurpreet Gill.

She was the bride in an arranged marriage and had been living in the Vancouver area when her family in India reported her missing in 2006.

Sgt. Kevin McLaren says police initially had few clues in the disappearance, but investigators never gave up and recently they found evidence linking a suspect to the murder.

He says Gill was arrested without incident on Saturday.

Police aren’t providing any details about what allowed them to make the arrest.
