NEW YORK, N.Y. – The NHL fined Stars forward Jamie Benn US$10,000 on Saturday for his cross-check on Oilers forward Ryan Jones.
Benn was given the maximum fine under the CBA for his hard cross-check on Jones during the third period of Edmonton’s 5-1 blowout win Thursday in Dallas.
Jones was helped to the Oilers bench, while Benn was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct.
As a first-time offender, Benn could be fined was the lesser of $10,000 or one-half of his daily salary. The fine money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
