By The Numbers: RBC’s first-quarter profit flat year-over-year; raises dividend

TORONTO – Royal Bank’s first quarter profit was flat from a year ago and down six per cent from the previous quarter, as higher earnings from its wealth management and personal and commercial banking divisions were offset by weaker results in insurance and capital markets.

Here are some key figures on the bank’s results:

— Net income was $2.45 billion for the quarter, flat compared to the same period last year.

— The earnings amounted to $1.58 per diluted share, down seven cents from $1.65 per diluted share a year ago.

— Quarterly revenue was $9.36 billion, down roughly three per cent from the $9.64 billion of revenue the bank reported during the same period last year.

— RBC boosted its quarterly dividend by three per cent, or two cents per share, to 81 cents per share.
