Funeral to be held today for Quebec police officer killed last weekend

OTTAWA – Funeral services will be held in Ottawa today for a police officer who was shot during a domestic dispute in northern Quebec.

Const. Steve Dery was answering a call at a residence in the community of Kuujjuaq last Saturday night when he was shot and killed — another officer was wounded but survived.

Both officers worked for the Kativik Regional Police Service.

The man suspected of shooting the officers was found dead hours after the shooting incident.

Police believe he committed suicide.

Dery was originally from Ottawa and his family still lives there.

A moment of silence was held in the House of Commons on Monday to honour Dery.
