Canada’s NBA star Steve Nash joins in practice with new Spanish football team

MADRID – Spanish soccer club Mallorca has posted images of new owner and former NBA star Steve Nash joining in a practice session with his players.

The second-division club notes on Twitter “a top-class reinforcement for today’s practice,” along with images of the two-time NBA MVP from Victoria kicking the ball with players.

Nash, together with Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver and Suns executive Andy Kohlberg, bought a controlling share of the club worth 20 million euros (C$29.4 million) in January. Nash and his fellow owners will attend Mallorca’s match against Oviedo on Saturday as part of the club’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Mallorca had played for 16 consecutive seasons in Spain’s top league before being relegated to the second division in 2013.
